Fromm Family recalls dog food for plastic contamination

Company voluntarily recalled 300 cases of frozen dog food distributed across 15 states and one Canadian province.

Fromm Family Foods has issued a voluntary recall of 300 cases of Bonnihill Farms BeefiBowls Beef Recipe gently cooked frozen dog food due to potential foreign plastic contamination.

The affected product was distributed at neighborhood pet stores in Illinois, Wisconsin, Texas, Arkansas, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Louisiana, California, Nevada, Arizona, Colorado, Oregon, Washington, Alaska and Ontario, Canada. The product is packaged in 16-ounce chubs with a "Best By" date of 12/25/2026.

However, dogs ingesting plastic may exhibit symptoms such as vomiting, loss of appetite, lethargy or stomach discomfort. Plastic, when consumed in large amounts, can lead to serious health issues in dogs, including gastrointestinal upset and a risk of intestinal obstruction.

According to the company, no other Fromm products are affected by this recall. The recall was initiated after the company received complaints of plastic contamination. Fromm has identified the error and has put corrective actions in place to prevent recurrence.

This voluntary recall is being made with the knowledge of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
