Aardvark, the start-up premium, insect-based pet food, set to make pet ownership more planet-friendly has officially launched in the UK.
On a mission to make pet ownership more planet-friendly, Aardvark launches with a range of sustainably sourced, insect-based pet food, offering protein rich, vet recommend kibbles for planet-friendly pets.
Aardvark’s brand mission is to make pets planet-friendly through using sustainable insect protein in its food rather than animal meat. The environmental impact of pets to this day remains a virtually untold story – with pets eating an estimated 20% of the world’s meat and being responsible for as much as a quarter of the damage associated with the meat industry.
Aardvark’s insect protein requires as little as 2% of the land area and 4% of the water per kg of protein when compared to beef. Additionally, it is a hypoallergenic high protein source meaning it is particularly well suited for pets with sensitive stomachs. This is in contrast to many animal meat proteins, with as high as 34% of all dogs having an allergy to beef.
Speaking on the launch, Aardvark founder Hugo Walters: “The premium pet food has grown to become an $8 billion global market yet sustainable pet food has failed to take off. At the crux of this problem is that many of the sustainable plant-based alternatives developed for humans do not meet our pet’s nutritional needs as carnivores. Insect protein meets the nutritional needs of our pets whilst being far more sustainable than conventional animal meat sources. We’re on a mission to become the market leader in Europe for sustainable pet food and expand Aardvark into the US by 2024. Developing Aardvark into a lifestyle brand that not only speaks to a younger generation of pet owners but also has a direct impact on our planet.”
Made from sustainable insect meal and a delicious blend of sweet potato, pulses, fruits and herbs, the ‘Crafted for Cats’ and ‘Developed for Dogs’ kibbles include all the essential proteins, nutrients, vitamins and minerals needed for pets.
Aardvark Crafted for Cats and Developed for Dog kibbles are available to purchase now from www.aardvark.store.
Still in its infancy, cell-cultured meat is being looked at for its possibilities, but environmental challenges exist, as well.

While forecasts can have short shelf lives, being overtaken by unforeseen events, there’s no question that the U.S. economy and American houseeholds have been buffeted by COVID-19 shutdowns and illnesses, patches of job insecurity despite low unemployment rates and record price inflation only partially offset by wage increases.
