Smithfield Foods Inc. announced its plan to not lay off more than 30 workers at its soon-to-close Smithfield Packing Co. South plant in Virginia, USA, despite the company's 2009 prediction that it was going to lay off 340 employees.
The company reduced the job cuts by moving the majority of the employees to the adjacent Smithfield Packing Co. North plant, according to The Virginian-Pilot .
