A new AP/ www.petside.com poll released June 23 showed that about 50% of American pet owners consider their pets to be a family member.
The survey revealed that 66% of single women said that their pet is a full member of the family while 46% of married women shared the same viewpoint. In comparison, 52% of single men consider their pet a family member, compared to 43% of married men.
New shelter data casts doubt on whether the pet population and pet ownership are truly growing.
While the pandemic caused unprecedented suffering worldwide in 2020, the disruptions to dogs, cats and other pets adoption numbers may normalize in 2021.
