A task force has recovered more than $615,000 worth of stolen dog food and dog treats from a Gurnee, Illinois, U.S., business, representing the bulk of a $750,000 property theft operation that began with hijacked semitrailers in Joliet, Illinois.

The investigation started June 30 when two semitrailers loaded with pallets of premium dog food and treats were stolen from a warehouse facility on Rock Creek Boulevard in Joliet. While the abandoned trailers were later recovered, their cargo had vanished into an underground resale network.

Following a multi-agency investigation, authorities obtained a search warrant for Dan's Deals Liquidation Store at 3545 Grand Ave. in Gurnee. The July 13 raid yielded results, with investigators recovering more than 95% of the stolen pet products that had been destined for retail shelves.

"The sheer volume of dog food and treats recovered demonstrates the organized nature of this theft operation," said task force officials in a statement. The stolen pet products alone represented over 80% of the total $750,000 in recovered merchandise.

The investigation remains ongoing, with authorities anticipating further recoveries and pending arrests.
