There are 11 million pets in Romania, including 4.1 million dogs and 4 million cats. However, out of the number of dogs, 1.5 million are stray dogs, according to the report citing Euromonitor.
Romanians spend nearly EUR112 million (US$165.4 million) on dog food, while they spend significantly less for cat food at about EUR48 million (US$65.1 million), despite the similar number of dogs and cats as pets.
While cat trends continue, the pandemic has added to overall slow-growth treatment of the cat food market.
Premiumization and humanization, as well as automation, fueled continued operation growth in spite of the COVID-19 pandemic.
