Charlee Bear Products acquires Hound and Gato pet foods

Hound and Gatos is a nationally distributed line of canned pet food marketed as a ‘Paleolithic diet’ for dogs and cats.

Charlee Bear Products, owners of dog treat brand Charlee Bear Dog Treats, acquired another pet food company Hound and Gatos. Hound and Gatos is a nationally distributed line of canned pet food marketed as a Paleolithic diet for dogs and cats.

“Our passion for quality pet products and ingredients was a natural fit with Hound & Gatos, and we are pleased to welcome this brand into the Charlee Bear Products family,” said Peter Gottsacker, owner of Charlee Bear Products, in a press release.

About Hound and Gatos dog and cat foods

The Hound & Gatos’ only ingredients in their canned recipes are real meat, vitamins and minerals, the same nutrients their Paleolithic ancestors thrived on. These ancestral formulations recreate this diet for cats and dogs.

Paleo diets have become more popular in recent years for people. They feature foods are marketed as having been eaten during the Paleolithic era, which dates from approximately 2.5 million to 10,000 years ago. Foods like grains, dairy, refined sugar, salt, potatoes and highly processed products do not comply. The purpose behind this specialized diet, according to followers, is that the body isn’t equipped to digest many of the foods in the contemporary diet.

“Our success at building a significant national presence for Charlee Bear has empowered us to further expand into animal nutrition,” said Gottsacker. “We’re thrilled to be a part of this growing industry and look forward to further building our company’s presence with current and future brands.”

In these early stages of the acquisition, Charlee Bear Products has already started the process of hiring additional management and sales support for the brand, now based in Wisconsin. They’re also planning on refreshing the branding in the coming months.
