Eurofins Microbiology Laboratories releases new Coronavirus environmental monitoring solution

Eurofins announces the availability of a testing solution for the coronavirus on workplace surfaces.

Eurofins Microbiology Laboratories announces the availability of a testing solution for the coronavirus on workplace surfaces using Eurofins Technologies’ VIRSeek, RTPCR platform, in accordance with the WORLD Health Organization (WHO) recommendations.  The VIRSeek test for coronavirus uses an initial screening for the E-gene, which encodes for the envelope surrounding the viral shell, and when requested, is used in conjunction with the VIRSeek SARS-CoV-2 Ident kit to specifically identify the pandemic virus.

The 2019 novel coronavirus disease (abbreviated COVID-19) is caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which can lead to severe acute respiratory syndrome and is the cause of the pandemic of 2020. This virus is most commonly spread through person-to-person transmission via respiratory droplets. Infected individuals can also shed the virus onto inanimate surfaces. The virus has been proven to survive on hard surfaces and equipment, which makes these objects especially concerning for potential virus transmission.

“We at Eurofins are proud to make this testing solution available now. It provides organizations with the ability to strengthen sanitation programs that help businesses get back to work quickly and safely,” said Troy Ayers, Vice President of Sales at Eurofins Microbiology Laboratories, Inc. “Companies will be able to manage health and safety concerns, allowing them to protect their employees and maintain the safety of their business.”

This new validated solution can test for the presence of coronavirus on surfaces and objects such as door handles, phones, and many other common touch points by means of environmental swabs. The collection kit provides all of the validated tools required for collection and step-by-step instructions for sampling and shipping. The collection kit includes the following: appropriate swabs, alcohol wipes, disposable gloves, sampling instructions and guide, insulated shipping container, gel packs, and return shipping label. The turnaround time from sample receipt at Eurofins laboratories is 48 hours.

In addition to the environmental monitoring test services, the Eurofins team of consulting experts is also available to assist with the implementation of environmental monitoring programs for coronavirus or in the event a response plan is needed to be enacted.

Coronavirus Consulting Services include the following: coronavirus environmental monitoring program development, coronavirus environmental remediation program development, coronavirus environmental monitoring sampling collection and coronavirus environmental package introduction and sampling guide.
