European pet food producer Percuro is experiencing significant growth this year, with the brand’s sales rising by 300% compared to 2022, according to Denise Saber, the company’s founder. Percuro specializes in sustainable insect protein- and plant-based adult dog and puppy food. These include its Snappies snacks, which were designed as a low-carbon-pawprint, on-the-go dog treat, she said.

“Inflammation is recognized as the root cause of illness in both humans and animals. Percuro has addressed this by creating a unique, naturally hypoallergenic formula which is low in inflammation, where common allergens and inflammatory ingredients such as beef, chicken, wheat, soya and corn are excluded,” Saber said. “Instead, we added insect protein to carefully selected plant-based ingredients including extra virgin olive oil, yucca and algae oil, best known for their life extending, anti-inflammatory benefits.”

Goal to capture share of premium pet food market

The brand’s objective is to secure “1% of the global premium pet food market, which equates to more than US$180 million in revenues over the next three to five years,” Saber explained. “We are facilitating the global growth in demand for Percuro pet food by continuing to increase our production capacity at our co-manufacturing facilities.”

At the same time, the brand is determined to expand its Live Better Longer pet food range, which includes Percuro insect protein-based cat food, with plans to launch it this year, according to Saber.

Percuro co-manufactures its pet food in Belgium and the Netherlands, she said, adding that the company also applies the philosophy of sustainable development to its manufacturing activities. “We connect our core values with sustainable practices by sourcing almost all our pet food ingredients and all recyclable packaging locally in Europe,” she said.

Global export expansion also happening

As it boosts its production, Percuro is also advancing its plans to expand its footprint to new markets across the world in 2023, according to Saber. “We export to many regions throughout the world, including Europe, the UK, North America, the UAE and Southeast Asia, with plans to further expand into exciting new territories this year.”
