
The facility represents an expansion from Wynwood's current 3,000-square-foot Wynwood production facility and is designed to boost annual fresh food production to US$30 million. The new space will support production of Wynwood's FRESH RX line of prescription diets and its Complete & Balanced meals.
"Pet parents are done settling for ultra-processed prescription food. They want something better for when their dog is sick, but the industry keeps looking the other way," said Michael O'Rourke, CEO and co-founder of Wynwood Dog Food Co. "This new space gives us the ability to do things differently and grow on our terms, while partnering with veterinary clinics across the nation."
Wynwood produces every meal in-house and formulates products based on science-based nutrition. Following the launch of its first national advertising campaign, Wynwood has seen month-over-month revenue growth of more than 7%.
The new Allapattah facility will include a viewing area where customers and veterinarians can observe the production process. Wynwood also plans to feature a live feed of its production area on its website.
The company currently employs a 40-person team, and the new facility is expected to create additional jobs.
Founded in 2015 by Michael O'Rourke and his family, Wynwood Dog Food Co. offers fresh and prescription dog food recipes formulated by PhD nutritionists and board-certified veterinarians to meet AAFCO and NIH standards. The company operates four retail locations across South Florida and ships nationwide.
"We started small, stayed profitable, and earned trust without advertising through veterinary recommendations," O'Rourke added. "Now, with our new facility and first national campaign, we're ready to be the leader in fresh prescription dog food."
