This year Aller Petfood celebrates 40 years of pet food. However, the story of Aller Petfood begins many years before, more accurate 98 years before when Frederik Bylling bought Aller Mølle.
“We already had experience in animal nutrition which started in 1921,” Povl Bylling, current CEO Henriette Bylling's father, said in a press release. “In 1979 pet food was added when we were asked if we could make pet food for the sled dogs in Greenland. No, not the everyday question...at that time, we did not know that sled dog food was one of the most difficult types of pet food to make."
Since then many more private label customers were added to Aller Petfood’s customer portfolio and Aller also started making its own pet food brands: ALL Dogs & Cats and TASTY Petfood.
Russian private label pet food
Aller entered the Russian market as the first private label pet food producers in the country, according to the company.
“Back in 2004 the Russian market was a very young market both in relations to supermarket private labels and commercial pet food. Hence it was a matter of selling in both these concepts to federal chains.” Henriette Bylling said in a press release.
The company also celebrates 15 years of producing pet food in Russia this year, as market leaders on the Russian private label market.
Being a pioneer in the Russian pet food market added additional work to the process of pet food safety and quality.
“Our quality team developed a strict supplier approval systems and has spent much time coaching the teams at facilities, such as slaughter houses, to ensure the quality of our pet food ingredients,” Henrietta Bylling said.
