Utilizing Layn’s formulation expertise, application strengths and proprietary platforms, we anticipate significant innovation and more quality botanical extract ingredient solutions.

Guilin Layn Natural Ingredient Corp, Ltd. (Layn), one of the world’s largest vertically-integrated innovators of natural botanical extract ingredients and solutions, announced it has expanded its botanical extracts portfolio through a majority acquisition of Chengdu Wagott Bio-tech Co.,Ltd. (Wagott), China’s largest exporter of green tea extract, and leading producer of tea and resveratrol extracts.

In an agreement finalized October 13, 2020, Layn acquired 51% ownership of Waggot. The purpose of this equity acquisition is to integrate and leverage the industry's leading resources, combining intellectual property and advantages in talent, management, products, processes, and industry relationships to deliver increasing compelling value to customers. Layn provides ingredients and formulation guidance to some of the world’s leading brands in food, beverage, flavor, nutraceutical, personal care, animal nutrition and pet health.

“It is exciting to combine our well developed processes & technology to expand opportunities and bring increased value to the marketplace, particularly in bringing tea extracts, including natural polyphenols and L-theanine to market,” said Mr Feng Gu, General Manager of Wagott. “Utilizing Layn’s formulation and application strengths and proprietary platforms designed to deliver solutions tailored to specific applications and market needs, we anticipate significant product innovation and the introduction of new lines such as white tea and pu’erh tea extracts and organic certified tea extracts.” Gu will continue to be Wagott’s General Manager and maintain operations independently after the acquisition.

For 25 years, Layn has earned a solid reputation as a leader in agronomy, botanical R&D, testing, manufacturing and innovation. The arrangement with Wagott is in line with Layn's long-term strategic planning and marks a significant milestone in its sustained commitment to innovation and leadership in quality botanical extract production and delivery.

According to published data in 2019, Wagott’s green tea extract export value ranks first, and it is a leading company in the field of green tea and resveratrol (from giant knotweed) extract in China.

The Layn and Wagott product lines are highly complementary, and with the integration of advanced capabilities, technology, equipment and world-class talent, Layn will continue to advance its global botanical leadership, particularly in providing scientifically-backed active ingredients including polyphenols(EGCG, theaflavins, resveratrols, etc.), theanine, and others.

Layn’s state-of-the-art facility is optimized for botanical extraction and the production of sweeteners, fruit-based antioxidants and herb-based functional ingredients,” said Frank Xie, EVP Layn Corp. “We continuously strive to advance our botanical science and R&D efforts, and unifying this with Wagott’s capacity and its leading, complementary ingredient portfolio puts us in a unique position of global leadership in innovation, production, yield, and cost – all focused on providing ultimate value to our customers.”
