The Pet Sustainability Coalition is excited to announce a strategic partnership with HowGood, an independent research company that boasts the world’s largest sustainability database for products and ingredients. This collaboration aims to empower PSC members to make informed, data-driven decisions on ingredient sourcing and formulations, helping reduce carbon emissions across the pet food supply chain.
HowGood's carbon foot-printing model, which has been verified by the Carbon Trust, adheres to globally recognized sustainability and climate reporting standards, including the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, CDP, GRI, TCFD, ISO and Science Based Targets. This ensures that PSC members have access to reliable and accurate sustainability data to guide their operations.
“We are thrilled to be HowGood’s primary partner within the pet industry,” said Jim Lamancusa, executive director of the Pet Sustainability Coalition. “Data is essential for making optimal decisions regarding ingredient sourcing, new product development, and formulation. With HowGood’s tools, PSC can help members assess the environmental impact of every ingredient, leading to more sustainable business practices. We are grateful to Fera Pets, Petcurean, Natoo, MFiber, and Earth Animal for supporting this initiative, which will allow all PSC members to benefit.”
HowGood's assessments cover eight crucial sustainability metrics: Greenhouse Gas Emissions, Blue Water Usage, Biodiversity, Soil Health, Labor Risk, Land Occupation, Animal Welfare, and Processing. These insights will help PSC members identify decarbonization opportunities and benchmark their sustainability efforts within the industry.
“Data granularity is crucial,” said Allison Reser, director of sustainability & innovation at PSC. “HowGood allows us to examine not just the overall impact of an ingredient, but the specifics, such as sourcing locations and certifications. We’re particularly excited about tracking regenerative ingredients and using this tool to highlight the positive impact of responsible sourcing in the pet industry.”
“Partnering with the Pet Sustainability Coalition will bring unprecedented transparency to the pet food industry,” added Michael Streitberger, head of partnerships at HowGood. “We look forward to supporting PSC’s 200+ members in making sustainability a core part of their sourcing, formulation, and marketing efforts through data-driven decision-making.”
