Pup Crawl raises money, awareness

Walk benefits pets displaced by housing crisis

A "Pup Crawl" event was held Saturday, September 26, walking dogs across New York's Brooklyn Bridge in an effort to cast light on the plight of dogs and cats endangered by the rash of US home foreclosures,  reports the New York Times .

Joseph Hassan organized the walk to raise funds and awareness for animal shelters. The  Pup Crawl Web site  has earned US$1,000 for three shelters in New York, Los Angeles and Florida.

The  American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals  believes that up to 1 million pets may lose their homes due to the housing crisis.
