10 dog and cat food recalls in March 2018

Several of the recalls involved raw pet food.

In March 2018, 10 dog and cat food recalls occurred, some involving multiple products, according to the United States Food and Drug Administration website. Several of the recalls involved raw pet food. J.M. Smucker upgraded their withdrawal from February to a recall that included Gravy Train, Skippy, Kibbles ‘N Bits and Ol’ Roy dog foods.

1. Steve’s Real Food recalls raw dog food for Salmonella

March 5, 2018

No pet or consumer illnesses from this product have been reported to date.

2. Kitten deaths led to Blue Ridge Beef raw pet food recall

March 5, 2018

This recall was initiated after the FDA received a complaint of two kitten deaths.

3. Smucker pet food withdrawal upgraded to recall by FDA

March 6, 2018

Any amount of pentobarbital renders the pet foods adulterated.

4. Raw Basics recalls Tucker’s raw dog food for Salmonella

March 8, 2018

This recall was issued after Raw Basics was notified by the Nebraska Department of Agriculture of the positive Salmonella finding.

5. Redbarn expands recall of dog treats for Salmonella

March 8, 2018

In total, 24 SKUs are affected from Redbarn, Chewy Louie, Dentley’s and Good Lovin’ brand products.

6. Radagast Pet Food recalls raw cat food for Listeria

March 21, 2018

Radagast was notified by the FDA and the Ohio Department of Agriculture after several tubs of multiple varieties of Rad Cat Raw Diet were purchased and tested.

7. Blue Ridge Beef recalls raw pet food

March 27, 2018

This recall was initiated after samples collected and tested by the FDA showed positive for Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes.

8. Darwin’s Natural recalls dog food for E. coli, Salmonella

March 27, 2018

These pathogens can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections.

9. Mars Australia recalls dog food after megaesophagus

March 27, 2018

The recall comes after numerous dogs were affected by megaesophagus, a condition that is generally not associated with food.

10. Milo’s Kitchen recalls dog treats for thyroid hormones

March 28, 2018

Dogs consuming high levels of beef thyroid hormone may exhibit symptoms such as increased thirst and urination, weight loss, increased heart rate and restlessness.
