Barentz to debut human-grade pet food concept at Interzoo

The specialty ingredient distributor will showcase a whole-meat-like demonstration product designed to translate the humanization trend into a hands-on sensory experience.

Barentz, a global distributor of specialty ingredient solutions, will present a fully formulated, edible pet food concept at Interzoo 2026 in Hall 7, Stand 7-632, that illustrates what "human-grade" structure, texture and visual appeal mean in practice.

The demonstration product — described as a juicy, fibrous, whole-meat-like product — features visible ingredients, authentic mouthfeel and a presentation designed to mirror consumer expectations for their own plates.

Catharina Nieuwenhuizen, technical director of pet food at Barentz, will be on-hand throughout the show to discuss ingredient solutions, from meat-based to plant-based alternatives, that make this level of texture achievable at industrial scale.

"Pet owners are no longer content to simply provide food — they are passing their dietary philosophy to their pets," Nieuwenhuizen said. "This innovative concept showcases our expertise and extensive in-house knowledge about ingredients, on both nutritional and functional properties. And not only for wet pet food, but also for dry pet food, treats and supplements. We go the extra mile with our customers to accept the challenge and create innovative, appealing, nutritious pet food concepts, which helps customers to differentiate in the market and be future-proof."
