The American Feed Industry Association (AFIA), in partnership with the Vietnamese Small Animal Veterinary Association (VSAVA) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), hosted a comprehensive workshop on pet nutrition trends and feline parvoviral enteritis as part of the Pet Health Month campaign in Vietnam. Held at Nong Lam University in Ho Chi Minh City, the event brought together more than 120 veterinary students for a knowledge-sharing session led by veterinarians Ngo Hong Phuong and Nguyen Thi Huyen.
The workshop focused on the importance of providing cats with high-quality, balanced diets, particularly when they are undergoing medical treatments like those for feline leukemia. The session sparked lively discussions among participants, who gained insights from experienced veterinarians on best practices for pet care.
AFIA's market research shows that Vietnamese veterinarians increasingly recommend U.S. pet food for its safety and nutritional value, helping pets live healthier and longer lives. Louise Calderwood, AFIA's director of regulatory affairs, emphasized the critical role of the relationship between pet owners and veterinarians in ensuring proper care and diet recommendations tailored to pets' life stages and health needs.
Dr. Le Quang Thong, dean of the faculty of animal science and veterinary medicine at Nong Lam University, praised the campaign's efforts in raising awareness of the importance of pet nutrition and health care. U.S. Consulate representative Matthew Kustel underscored the collaboration’s potential to enhance healthy pet care practices in Vietnam while fostering the veterinary business.
