Australia's Real Pet Food considers sale

One of country's largest pet food manufacturers has reportedly engaged Citi Australia to explore a potential sale.

According to local media reports, Real Pet Food Co. (RPF), a producer of chilled and fresh pet foods based in New South Wales, Australia, has taken its first steps toward a potential sale.

According to the Australian Financial Review (AFR)'s Street Talk, the pet food manufacturer’s investors, including Temasek, Hosen Capital, New Hope Group and others, have appointed Citi Australia, the Australian division of Citigroup, to consider its options, including a trade sale.  

In 2023, RPF received an equity investment from partners, Temasek, Hosen Capital, and New Hope Group to expand its chilled pet food business. This group of Asia-Pacific investors became RPF's owners in 2017 when they bought RPF from Quadrant Private Equity.

According to Petfood Industry's Top Pet Food Companies, RPF houses several brands, including Nature’s Gift, Nature’s Goodness, Dr B’s BARF, Billy + Margot, Ivory Coat, Fussy Cat, V.I.P. Petfoods and Farmers Market. Last summer, the company launched its first black soldier fly (BSF) protein-based dry dog food from its Billy + Margot brand.

The company also owns Consolidated Manufacturing Enterprises Pty Ltd. (CME) Factory at Inverell, Australia, and the Jimbo’s business in New Zealand. It operates nine manufacturing facilities around the world. Products are sold in Australia, New Zealand, the U.K. and the U.S. IBIS World noted RPF has Australia's third largest market share of pet food companies, behind Mars Petcare and  Nestlé Purina PetCare.
