Supercan Bulk of Miami, Florida, U.S., has issued a recall of one lot of its Pig Ear Slivers – Thick Cut Piggy Ear Slices after the product tested positive for Salmonella. The recalled treats were sold in 15.9-ounce bags, containing 500 pieces, and carry an expiration date of 11/09/2026.

The potential contamination was identified through routine testing by the Washington State Department of Agriculture on March 4, 2025. Affected products were distributed through the North 40 store in Washington State beginning April 11, 2024.

Though no illnesses have been reported, the recall was initiated due to the risks Salmonella poses to both animals and humans.

Pets infected with Salmonella may show symptoms such as lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea (sometimes bloody), fever or loss of appetite. Even pets not displaying symptoms can carry and spread the bacteria to other animals or people.

In humans, especially those handling contaminated pet products, Salmonella infection can cause nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, diarrhea and fever. More serious complications are rare but possible.

Consumers are advised to stop using the recalled treats and to contact a veterinarian or healthcare provider if their pet or household members show signs of illness.

The product’s expiration date is printed on the back of the bag. Supercan has begun the recall and will dispose of the affected lot in accordance with FDA guidelines.
