Senate Agriculture Committee Chairman John Boozman, R-Ark., released legislative text for Farm Bill 2.0 that he said would provide farmers, ranchers, foresters and rural communities with resources needed to succeed.
Boozman said the discussion draft reflects input from both parties and from rural stakeholders. "This bill is built for the people who feed America, and I look forward to continuing conversations with my colleagues about how we can best serve them and the communities they call home," he said.
PFI support
The Pet Food Institute (PFI) said the draft bill addresses several priorities for U.S. pet food producers.
"The draft Senate bill includes key priorities for the U.S. pet food industry, including provisions to strengthen animal health protections, support safe ingredient sourcing, and bolster the global competitiveness of U.S. pet food producers, while supporting America's farmers who are essential to the supply chain," said Elise Fennig, president and CEO of PFI.
PFI also noted the bill's provisions on agricultural trade promotion funding.
"PFI also welcomes increased funding for agricultural trade promotion programs, which will help expand export opportunities for U.S. pet food manufacturers," Fennig said. "We look forward to the bill advancing through the Senate approval process."
