BeneMeat has launched its Try & Share Program, offering EU citizens the opportunity to test dog treats containing cultivated meat while providing feedback on the products. The program represents the first consumer trial of cultivated meat products for pets in the European market.
The initiative allows pet owners to access dog treats made with cultivated meat, with additional cultivated products planned for the EU market pending regulatory approvals in other territories. BeneMeat developed the treats in partnership with established pet food producers under veterinary oversight.
The dog treat trial follows successful safety and digestibility testing of complete cat food conducted at a European university. The company said the program aims to collect long-term consumer feedback while building awareness of cultivated meat technology as it transitions from experimental to commercial applications.
"We don't want imitations, but a genuine product that dogs can truly taste," said Roman Kříž, CEO of BeneMeat. "With this step, we not only bring cultivated meat closer to pets and their owners but also help society and regulators better understand what cultivated meat is and why it matters."
Jan Luprich, srategic partnerships lead, said the company's goal is to demonstrate that cultivated meat can produce high-quality, affordable pet food products. "The program is another step in bringing our work closer to people and their four-legged companions, while helping them understand the benefits of this technology."
BeneMeat said it holds the distinction of being the world's first registered producer of cultivated meat for pet food, with production registered by the Central Institute for Supervising and Testing in Agriculture under code CZ 802529-01. The company developed its dog treat recipe internally, with production conducted through a partner facility in compliance with EU pet food regulations.
Pet owners can register for the trial program at tryandshare.benemeat.com. Participants are encouraged to share experiences on social media using hashtags #FirstBite and #TryAndShare while tagging @BeneMeat. The program has limited spaces with sample packs scheduled for distribution.
Based in Prague, Czech Republic, the company is part of BTL Group, and has operated since 2020 developing cultivated meat production technology. BeneMeat employs over 100 research and development experts working on cell line development and manufacturing solutions for the cultivated meat sector.
