8 dog food recalls for excess vitamin D in November 2018

Vitamin D, when consumed at very high levels can lead to serious health issues in dogs including renal dysfunction.

In November 2018, eight dog foods were recalled because they may have contained excessive levels of vitamin D.

Dogs ingesting elevated levels of Vitamin D may exhibit symptoms such as vomiting, loss of appetite, increased thirst, increased urination, excessive drooling, and weight loss, according to the United States Food and Drug Administration (F.D.A.). Vitamin D, when consumed at very high levels can lead to serious health issues in dogs including renal dysfunction. 

1. ANF recalls dog food for elevated vitamin D

ANF, Inc. issued a voluntary recall of select products of ANF Pet Lamb and Rice Dog Food due to potentially elevated levels of vitamin D.

2. ELM Pet Foods recalls dog food for elevated vitamin D

November 29, 2018 - Lot codes in this voluntary recall were distributed in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland.

3. Sunshine Mills expands recall of puppy, dog foods

November 28, 2018 - The recalled dog food products were distributed in retail stores within the United States as well as some export distributors in Japan, Puerto Rico, Colombia, Israel, Canada and South Korea.

4. Lidl recalled Orlando grain-free dog food for Vitamin D

November 23, 2018 - The recalled products consist of the following lot numbers manufactured between March 3, 2018, and May 15, 2018.

5. Sunshine Mills recalls Abound dog food for Vitamin D

November 23, 2018 - Harris Teeter has removed the recalled products from its shelves.

6. Natural Life Pet Products expands dry dog food recall

November 13, 2018 - The products were distributed to retail stores in Georgia, Florida, Alabama, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and California.

7. Nutrisca recalls dry dog food for elevated vitamin D

November 5, 2018 - Nutrisca became aware of the elevated levels of vitamin D after receiving complaints from three pet owners of vitamin D toxicity after consuming the product.

8. Natural Life Pet Products recalls dry food for vitamin D

November 5, 2018 - Natural Life Pet Products of Saint Louis, Missouri, USA is voluntarily recalling our Chicken and Potato dry dog food due to it containing elevated levels of Vitamin D.
