Marfrig-BRF merger completed; executive team named

Miguel de Souza GularteMiguel de Souza Gularte MBRF Global Foods | LinkedInThe merger between Brazil-based protein producers BRF and Marfrig Global Foods has been completed, with shares of the combined company, MBRF Global Foods Company, trading on the B3 stock exchange, effective September 23.

With the completion of the merger, the new company announced its organizational structure, including the new executive team for MBRF Global Foods.

Miguel de Souza Gularte, who most recently was the CEO of BRF but earlier served as CEO of Marfrig, has been named global CEO of MBRF.

Rui Mendonça Júnior will leave the position of Marfrig’s CEO and will start to serve as a consultant for the combined company. Tang David will leave the position of Marfrig’s chief administrative and financial officer and investor relations officer, and he will be appointed to occupy a position in the board of directors.

Other MBRF executives include:

  • Artêmio Liston, industrial operations and logistics vice president
  • Fabio Duarte Stumpf, agribusiness and quality vice president
  • Fabio Luis Mendes Mariano, halal market vice president
  • Heraldo Geres, vice president of legal, tax, corporate affairs and people
  • Jose Ignacio Scoseria Rey, chief financial, investor relations, management and technology officer
  • Leonardo Campos Dallorto, international market and supply vice president
  • Manoel Reinaldo Manzano Martins Jr., Brazil market and marketing vice president
  • Rodrigo Marçal Filho, executive diretor of origination and agribusiness – cattle

Marcel Sacco, Bruno Machado Ferla and Igor Marti, who held leadership positions with BRF, will leave the company.

The two companies first announced their intent to merge in May, after having been affiliated companies since Marfrig first purchased shares of BRF in 2021, eventually becoming BRF’s majority shareholder.

BRF was primarily known as a poultry and pork producer, ranking as the world’s third largest poultry producer. It is also a key player in the Brazilian pet food industry. Marfrig was primarily known as a beef producer, but its slaughter activities also included cattle, horses, pigs, goats, sheep, poultry and buffalo. 

BRF and Marfrig also respectively ranked 14th and 132nd globally among feed producers.
