My Perfect Pet refreshes cat food line, packaging

My Perfect Pet has unveiled a refreshed cat food line featuring updated recipes, new packaging and a modern look, the company announced.

The refresh includes increased moisture content for hydration support and added taurine, an essential amino acid for cats, according to the company. The recipes remain meat-first, with a controlled amount of rice added as a digestible carbohydrate source to help maintain appropriate protein, mineral and phosphorus levels while keeping the formulas complete and balanced for adult cats.

"When we looked across our portfolio, we saw a chance to refine our cat formulas — boosting flavor and palatability while holding firm on the high-quality, whole-food nutrition pet parents count on," Katie Lilly, chief marketing officer of My Perfect Pet, told Petfood Industry. "These refinements are designed from the bottom up to deliver on the nutrition cats need while being highly flavorful, including increasing moisture content for hydration and adding additional taurine, an essential amino acid for cats."

Lilly said cats are obligate carnivores, meaning they're built to get their nutrition primarily from meat, so the brand's recipes stay meat-first by design.

"We added a carefully controlled amount of rice to that meat-first foundation because it's a well-tolerated, highly digestible carbohydrate — it gives us a readily available source of energy and helps us maintain appropriate protein, mineral and phosphorus levels, so every recipe stays complete and balanced for adult cats," said Lilly.

The cat line refresh follows a similar update to My Perfect Pet's dog food portfolio in May, which introduced a new look, ingredient-forward packaging, clearer nutrition storytelling and flexible feeding options.
